Stein Builders was founded in 2021 by Shay Falkenstein, a builder with the range to run a project from foundation to finish woodwork — and the discipline to keep every job at the same level across the entire scope.
The company is based in Ennis, Montana — a place where the terrain is demanding and the clients who choose to build here expect the same from their builder. We serve the Madison Valley, the Gallatin Valley, and the Big Sky corridor, and travel multi-state for the right project.
We are a small operation by design. Shay is present on every project — no project manager layer, no hand-offs. The work that comes out of Stein Builders is the work Shay personally did, reviewed, and approved. That’s the only way to maintain the quality standard we hold ourselves to.

Shay Falkenstein is the owner, operator, and builder at Stein Builders. He is on-site for every project, personally handling everything from structural work to the finish carpentry that goes in last. The range across a Stein Builders project — foundations, timber framing, custom woodwork, roofing — is the range Shay himself carries.
His specialization is intricate carpentry and woodwork — reclaimed materials, heritage joinery, custom pieces that require patience and a level of craft that most production builders don’t offer. That specialty extends into how the whole company operates: nothing ships that isn’t right.
Shay is available by phone 24/7. He returns calls promptly and schedules in-person meetings with every new client before any work is contracted. Getting to know the project — and the person behind it — is how he decides whether a job is the right fit.
